Where is our home and how do the places we lived in change us?
As someone who has moved quite a bit in my life, I always find it fascinating to explore different places. How long does it take to make me feel at home at a place? This theme was explored in my solo exhibition at 17qm in Marburg, where I studied art.
The show was in a space called 17qm, a former butcher shop which was used as an office before it became a gallery. Not only we transition through space, but the spaces themselves shift and transform as well. 17qm is located at the beginning of the shopping street in Marburg and is now run by local artists to offer a space for art and get-togethers. Apart from the art exhibition I also hosted a jam session with local musicians. For the period of the exhibition, 17qm was like my extended living room where I could invite people over. In Marburg, my own room had 7qm, so 17qm was a real luxury.
A big part of the exhibition was this collage of paintings, materials and sketchbooks that was made specifically for this room. I also presented my paper paintings that I made in my first semester studying art.
